Boston Shootout is first held.
June 30, 1972
(June) Founded Ken Hudson, Ray Flynn, Alfreda Harris, Clarence “Jeep” Jones, and others, it is held initially at Boston University’s Sargent gym. One of the first such annual all-star tournaments in the U.S., it is organized to showcase the so-called “Boston Six” (Bobby Carrington, Billy Collins, King Gaskins, Ron Lee, Wilfred Morrison, and Carlton Smith), one of the most talented group of players in the city’s history. The Boston team wins the first championship, and the tournament goes on to attract teams and talented players from around the country. It continues in its original format until 1999, then becomes an AAU tournament.
